Storm Root — Privacy Policy

Storm Root ("the app", "we", "our") is a digital wellbeing app that gently nudges you away from doomscrolling, staying up past bedtime, and prolonged sitting, using calming nature-themed screen overlays. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it's used, and your choices.

No accounts, no servers

Storm Root has no login, no user accounts, and no backend server of any kind. All of your settings, stats, and preferences are stored locally on your device only, in the app's private storage. We do not collect, transmit, or have access to any of this data.

Permissions the app uses, and why

• Display over other apps — required to show the nature overlay effects on your screen. This is the core mechanic of the app.
• Usage Access — used only if you enable the "Doomscroll Weather" module, to check how much time you've spent today in the specific apps you've chosen to track. This check happens entirely on your device; your app usage data is never transmitted anywhere.
• Physical Activity (motion/step detection) — used only if you enable the "Sitting Roots" module, to detect when you've moved after a period of stillness. No location or movement data is stored or transmitted; it is used momentarily to decide whether to show or clear the overlay.
• Notifications — used to show the required persistent notification while the background overlay service is running, and to notify you if a permission the app relies on gets revoked.

Each permission is only requested when you turn on the corresponding module, and you can revoke any of them at any time from your device's system settings — the app will simply stop that module's functionality.

Advertising

Storm Root uses Google AdMob to show optional rewarded video ads. Watching one of these ads temporarily unlocks additional cosmetic screen-overlay effects; this is entirely optional and does not affect the app's core functionality.

Google AdMob may collect and process data such as your advertising identifier, IP address, device information, and ad interaction data in order to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's Privacy Policy. Storm Root does not itself collect or store any data related to ad serving beyond a local record of which effect you've unlocked and until when.

Ads shown in this app are configured for a general audience.

Children's privacy

Storm Root is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ad requests are configured with a general-audience content rating.

Data retention and deletion

Since all data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app permanently deletes all of it. There is nothing for us to delete on our end, because we never had it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a revised "Last updated" date.
